The Extinguishing and the Relighting Ceremonies

Today our way of life refers to the disappearance of truth and justice in the world. As the symbolic lights are extinguished, we reflect upon this loss. Let there be light. We reinforce our belief that we throw off the mantle of sorrow and darkness and emulate those historical figures who have brought truth and knowledge to mankind. This Ceremonial is an important part of our commitment to a conscientious and enlightened life.

Petitions Welcome

It is not to late to share the Scottish Rite with your Blue Lodge Brethren. Petitions will be ballotted upon on Wednesday, March 17 at 5:30 PM.

You can download a petition by clicking the Download a Petition button on the right.

Talking points:

In addition to basic "Craft" Masonry, there are Appendant groups that are now available to you as a Master Mason. Freemasons unite with each other and their families in bonds of friendship and mutual assistance. A mutual tie that in this world is greatly needed.

As a Master Mason you should be interested in Masonic advancement, not that you will thereby become a better Mason, but that you may have a better understanding of the Masonic System, additional Masonic contacts, and an explanation of that great symbolism upon which the Fraternity has built a glorious superstructure.

We, your Brethren, know the pleasure and gratification you felt when you completed your first three steps in Freemasonry and became numbered among those thousands of men the world over who stand for Brotherly Love, Religious Freedom, and Peace and Happiness for men of all nations and of all creeds

Top Ten Reasons to Join the Scottish Rite:

  • It is the University of Freemasonry.
  • Scottish Rite Masons are especially honored by family members and others outside the fraternity.
  • It is Americas leading sponsor of clinics and centers addressing language disorders in children.
  • It is Freemasonry's leading teacher of Masonic philosophy, ethics, and toleration.
  • It expands opportunities to make connections and forge friendships beyond our community and state.
  • It broadens your fraternal participation and involvement.
  • It offers direct access to some of the best Masonic publications anywhere.
  • It provides unique opportunities for leadership and recognition.
  • It presents a time-proven self study and development program for men.
  • It offers a comfortable and objective format for exploring the great questions of religion and philosophy.

Scottish Rite Expresss

Hertzberg Reunion

The Spring Reunion for the Des Moines Scottish Rite bodies will begin on March 20th and will honor Past Master of Kadosh Grover R. Hertzberg. This reunion will consist of three Saturdays, March 20, April 10, and April 17. Following the conclusion of the degree work on the 3rd Saturday, we will hold our Double Eagle Gala, our signature event of the Consistory year. A copy of the reunion schedule is attached for your use. You can click on the button on the right to download a petition. We will ballot on petitions on March 10 and March 17.

Meet & Greet

The Des Moines Consistory will be hosting a “Meet and Greet” this Wednesday, March 10 from 4:30 pm to 7 pm. Please stop in for a few minutes or stay for awhile. If you have someone who might be interested in Scottish Rite this is a great way to introduce them to other Scottish Rite Masons in a casual relaxed environment.

DOUBLE EAGLE GALA

The 2010 Spring Double Eagle Gala will be held on April 17th and will feature the sounds of Bob Weast and His Swingin’ Big Band. The party will begin with a social hour at 5:30 pm followed by dinner, and the Springtime in Paris party.

Under Construction

A few months ago we had our Scottish Rite Makeover – Consistory Edition Party. Because of the generosity of our members we have been able to tackle a number of projects. Since 1st quarter is a slower time for activities now was a great time to get started, so don’t be surprised if you see a little extra dust when you visit. We have been working on the renovation of the ladies restroom on 2nd floor, the replacement of the lighting controls and wiring in the Consistory auditorium, and the cleaning and tuning of our pipe organ. We look forward to sharing our progress with you during our Spring Scottish Rite activities.
