SR Express - Summer Reunion

Eagle
Scottish Rite . Express

Valley of Des Moines
----------------------------------
Orient of Iowa

June 20, 2018
2018 One Day Reunion is fast approaching!
Our 2018 One Day Reunion honoring Henry A. Dunlap, 33° is just around the corner, in fact it begins next Saturday morning (June 30th) at 8:00 am. So make sure that your candidate has turned in his petition.

One of the great things about a
One-Day reunion is that it gives the Valley a chance to feature a couple of degrees in addition to the five mandatory degrees.

Our Supreme Council requires all candidates to receive the 4th, 14th, 18th, 30th, and 32nd degrees. With the exception of the 4th, these are the terminal degrees of each of the four Scottish Rite bodies and officially enroll our new candidates as a member of that particular body.

At our Summer Reunion, we will also confer in full form the 5th Degree, Perfect Master and the 25th Degree, Knight of the Brazen Serpent. These degrees are completely different from one another but have some great lessons and teachings.

The 5th Degree, Perfect Master,
continues the legend of our Master Hiram Abif. It portrays the funeral of Hiram, the architect of King Solomon's Temple. The principal characters are Adoniram, who was appointed Chief Architect of the Temple; Zabud, the Prime Minister; King Solomon; and Hiram, King of Tyre. This degree teaches us to be industrious and honest. Our Grand Master Hiram Abif possessed both of these virtues, and at his death was honored for his faithful and steadfast adherence to those duties.

The 25th Degree, Knight of the Brazen Serpent, delves into some of the "Greater Mysteries." This Degree introduces you to Sufi teachings and traditions, and gives us clues on h ow this esoteric branch of Islam might help overcome the difficulties encountered in our attempts to advance as novitiates in the mysteries.
It first asks us if we have truly performed all we have promised. In our Masonic careers we have assumed obligations to the performance of many duties. These obligations are real. If we have agreed to live by them and do not do so, we are hypocrites and dishonor the Fraternity. The Perfection that was idealized in the Fourteenth Degree reveals itself to be elusive, and the path to it requires constant attention.

The 5th Degree will be at 9:40 am and the 25th degree will be at 1:20 pm on Saturday, June 30, 2018.
