SR Express - Plans for Renovation of Grand Banquet Room

Scottish Rite
Express

Valley of Des Moines
----------------------------------
Orient of Iowa

December 28, 2018

On behalf of the Des Moines Consistory Building Trust, I am pleased to announce a huge opportunity for our spectacular Consistory Building. We have been challenged by the WT and Edna Dahl Foundation to raise $100,000.00 for the renovation of the Dahl Grand Banquet room and kitchen areas.

This is a rendering of the planned renovations to the WT and Edna Dahl Grand Banquet room. As you can see, it will involve new painting and lighting, as well as updating the marble look of the pillars.
A couple of notes to this rendering. The tops of the columns will retain the gold flake paint and the overall paint scheme is more gray than is shown in this picture. The stage will also have new curtains installed.

When we are successful, the WT and Edna Dahl Foundation will match our fund-raising with a grant of $100,000.00. This challenge grant is good for one year. This exciting opportunity means every dollar you donate to the DMCBT will be doubled due to this amazing offer.

One of the most important aspects of this campaign is to involve every one of our 1089 members in the Des Moines Scottish Rite. This means no donation is considered too small or inconsequential. Therefore, we are asking each member to make a contribution. We would like to show that 100% of our members want to preserve our historic Consistory building.

For your convenience, you can also make a monthly donation via credit card. We have the ability to charge your debit or credit card each month. A couple of amounts that we would suggest are $83.33 per month equaling $1000 for the campaign or $32 per month to represent the 32 degrees of the Scottish Rite.

You can make your donation by calling (515-288-8927) or by mailing your check payable to the Des Moines Consistory Building Trust (519 Park Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50309). All contributions are tax deductible.

Regardless of how you choose to participate, we thank you for your membership in the Des Moines Consistory and wish you the best during this holiday season.

Sincerely and Fraternally,
Shane Harshbarger - Registrar of the Des Moines Consistory

Last Call for
Albert Pike Party

Please make your reservation by 1:00 PM today!

Albert Pike was the longest serving Grand Commander of the Scottish Rite of the Southern Jurisdiction. Joining the Scottish Rite in 1853, he was instrumental in making Scottish Rite what it is today. During his 32 years as Grand Commander, he took an obscure Masonic organization begun in Charleston, South Carolina and made it into the largest most well known appendant body of Freemasonry.

All activities will be held at Buzzard Billy's

6:00 pm Social Hour
6:30 pm Dinner & Program

On Thursday, December 27th, we will celebrate and
pay tribute to his legacy. As Pike began his Scottish Rite career in New Orleans, we thought a cajun flavored affair would be a fun way to celebrate.
This special event will take place at Buzzard Billy's
(615 3rd Street - Des Moines) and will be similar in nature to our Royal Mile event each summer.

For $20.00 you have a choice of the following items:
Jambalaya
Red Beans and Rice with Andouille
Cajun Combo - One blackened catfish fillet, a half order of Jambalaya, a cup of seafood gumbo, & hushpuppies
Shrimp Creole
Blackened Fish & Chicken Combo
Blackened Fettuccini  Alfredeaux -
Fettuccini noodles tossed in Alfredeaux sauce with Creole herbs and spices topped with blackened chicken breast
Southern Fried Shrimp Dinner
Fried Alligator Dinner

Our program will share some little known facts and trivia about the life of Albert Pike. In addition to his Masonic career, Pike was an explorer, attorney, Indian agent, author, Civil War General (CSA), historian, poet, and philosopher.

This event is open only to Master Masons and is limited to the first 45 reservations (due to space constraints).
Cost is $20 per person and advance payment is required by calling the AASR office
515-288-8927 or rsvp@dmscottishrite.org.

November 20, 2018
Brethren,

On behalf of the Trustees of the Des Moines Consistory Building Trust, I am pleased to announce a huge opportunity for our spectacular Consistory Building. We have been challenged by the WT and Edna Dahl Foundation to raise $100,000.00 for the renovation of the Dahl Grand Banquet room and kitchen areas.

We are posting this today, to ensure you have a chance to make a donation in 2018 or 2019 as you so desire.

Below is a picture of the planned renovations to the WT and Edna Dahl Grand Banquet room.

As you can see, it will involve new painting and lighting, as well as updating the marble look of the pillars.

One of the most important aspects of this grant is to involve every one of our 1089 members in the Des Moines Scottish Rite bodies. This means that no donation is considered too small or inconsequential. Therefore, we are asking each member to consider making some sort of contribution. We would like to show 100% of our members want to preserve our historic Consistory building.

An additional way that you can participate is make a monthly donation via credit card. We have the ability to charge your debit or credit card each month. A couple of amounts that we would suggest are $83.33 per month equaling $1000 for the campaign or $32 per month to represent the 32 degrees of the Scottish Rite.

Regardless of how you choose to participate, we thank you for your membership in the Des Moines Consistory and wish you the best during this holiday season.

SR Express - Parking/Fall Reunion

Scottish Rite Express

Valley of Des Moines
----------------------------------
Orient of Iowa

November 1, 2018
Parking Update:

There have been a number of questions and concerns expressed regarding parking for the reunion this weekend.  Please let me provide you with some updates but I need something from you as well.  I need you to read this carefully to eliminate confusion as this email applies to this weekend only.

The downtown parking meters are regulated until 9:00 pm Monday thru Saturday.  You can "feed " them for up to 12 hours at a time.  The pricing is 75¢ per hour.  We will have quarters available in the office for you to buy should you need some.  They also take the city of Des Moines "Smart" cards.  They do not take credit or debit cards.

The north parking lot directly behind the Consistory building will be open beginning at 4:00 pm on Friday evening, November 2 and 8:00 am on Saturday, November 3.  It is free to park here, first come first serve.  Please do not block anyone in.  One item to note, this lot is not owned by Des Moines Scottish Rite.  Thankfully, we have access to it because of a long term relationship with American Enterprise Insurance.

The parking lot directly west of the Consistory building will also be available to Scottish Rite members this weekend as we have rented it for this reunion.  It will be open beginning at 4:00 pm on Friday evening, November 2 and 8:00 am on Saturday, November 3.  Please enter through the north gate on Center street.  We do not have exclusivity to it but there are well over 100 spaces in this lot.  Scottish Rite will be renting this lot for some of our larger events but not all of them.

Should you have questions or concerns, please contact me.
