Meet and Greet -This Wednesday

On the first Wednesday of each month we host a social hour, just a simple time for members to stop in and chat with each other, no specific plays, degrees, or lectures – just a time to get more acquainted with brothers of the Scottish Rite.

We hold it in the Library just off the second floor tapestry lounge, a little bit like “Cheers” – just a relaxed time to chat and get to know each other better. Members stop in as they are able, some early, some late, - stay for a little, stay for a while.

We would like to you stop by, if you are able, and have a chance to acquaint or reacquaint your self with some of the Scottish Rite Members. The particulars:

University of Freemasonry - 17th Degree

A University of Freemasonry is scheduled for May 21 starting at 7:00 PM in the 2nd floor library.

The 17th degree (Knight of the East and West) well be read with a discussion to follow.

In the past this type of event has run for about an hour and has resulted in a very good evening of discussion and insight from the participants.

This is a great opportunity to explore in a group setting the meanings/lessons of a degree.

The 17th degree is entitled the Knight of the East and West The lessons of this degree are that loyalty to God is man's primary allegiance, and the temporal governments not founded upon God and His righteousness will inevitably fall.

Much of the script for the 17° is taken directly from the Revelation of God through Jesus Christ to St. John the Evangelist which is also called the apocalypse to St. John. This degree teaches us about a virtual army of martyrs that have offered up their lives to prove their faith or to benefit mankind.

Ascension Day Service - Photos

Last evening the Quarterly meeting of the Des Moines Scottish Rite was held at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Des Moines. Then a Joint Ascension Day Service with the York and Scottish Rite participating was held. This is a solemn ceremony and there were about 70 in attendance to help honor those who had passed away during the preceding year. Candles were lit as the names were read and following the reading of the names three toasts were made in their honor.
