First weekend of the Fall Reunion

The first weekend of the 2012 Lyle C. Smith, 33° Fall Memorial Reunion is in the books! The new class was welcomed Friday night with a pork chop dinner followed by opening ceremonies complete with bagpipes. Four degrees were performed Friday evening and eight on Saturday. Following the degree work Saturday evening, all at the Reunion enjoyed a social in the fourth floor Billiards room.

The Reunion continues November 2-3. Over the course of this two weekend Reunion, the class will see twenty-seven of the twenty-nine Scottish Rite degrees. If you’re a member of a recent class, come on down and reconnect with those you haven’t seen in a while; if you joined the Scottish Rite some time ago, you’ll see degrees you’ve never seen before! Take some time to relax and enjoy the food, fellowship, and the University of Freemasonry. (MM)

Fireside Chat with the SGC and SGIG

Today the Des Moines Valley had three special events, the first being a Fireside Chat with Sovereign Grand Commander Ron Seale, 33 GC and Sovereign Grand Inspector General for the Orient of Iowa Gary Sissel, 33 GC.

Topics ranged from membership, technology, education, and beyond.  Some memorable moments included the fine points presented, especially in that the job of being a Masonic leader is to teach the next generation how to lead, and that we must not be asking about the current class, but where the last class is?

Below are some pictures. (Photos by Tony Batcheller, 32)

Following the Fireside Chat and an excellent lunch, Capitol Lodge 110 AF&AM opened on the 3rd Degree for the purposes of performing courtesy work for Southgate Lodge 657 AF&AM in raising Bro. Leroy Porter to the sublime degree of a Master Mason.  There were many in attendance, with DeMolay's State Master Counselors conferring the first section, and the Grand Lodge officers performing the second section.

Below are some beautiful pictures by Tony Batcheller, 32 and Kurt Hoffmann, 32.

To finish the evening, the Des Moines Valley hosted the reception of Most Worshipful Bryce B. Hildreth, 33 as Grand Master of Masons in Iowa.  The program was fun, the food was great, and a great time was had by all.

Again, below are pictures by Tony Batcheller, 32.
