A very impressive ceremony was held this evening to Knight the sixteen new members of the Knights of St. Andrew.

The Knighting Ceremony was written by Brother Kurt Hoffman, 32° who is the Secretary of the Group. Steve Hall, 32° is the Commander and those wishing to join and participate should contact him at Scoopcoater@yahoo.com, or you can contact the Scottish Rite Office.

The Knights of Saint Andrew was first organized in Oklahoma at the Tulsa Valley. It is an organization composed of "Black Hats" (32° Masons)

The Mission is tentatively:
To serve as a leadership development tool for our membership
To provide opportunities for 32° Members to become more involved in the Rite.
To become a visible, viable entity of the Des Moines Scottish Rite.

The Knights of St. Andrew (KSA) is an organization exclusively for 32° SR Masons with the mission of advancing the mission of the Scottish Rite. SR Valleys across the United States have formed their own KSA organizations and have had a great deal of success.

University of Free Masonry – “The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Masonic Fraternity”
The Des Moines Consistory is pleased to have for our 2010 University of Freemasonry series a special program designed by Lyle Simpson 33°. Lyle has spent and great deal of time researching and traveling to learn about the ancient scrolls discovered in Israel in 1947.

THE DEAD SEA SCROLLS (Part 1) - February 24, 2010

In our early history those of faith were among the few that could read or write. Moses designated one of the tribes of Israel to be the keepers of the Ark of the Covenant and the ancient scrolls. They became the Priestly class, or Rabbi’s of the Jewish faith. Since the time of Moses, Priests reduced the wisdom of their day in ancient scrolls. These were carefully preserved to pass to future generations our ancient traditions. In 1947 the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in Israel. These are duplicates of the original ancient scrolls that were kept under the Holy of Holies of the Jerusalem Temple and extend from the time of Moses to 70 AD. What has happened to them? What do they tell us? Since they were written from 200BC to 70AD they were contemporaneous with the life of Christ and the Exodus of the Jewish people from Israel. Since they were not discovered until 1947 they have not been affected by history. They tell a different story than our current traditions. Will this knowledge make any difference for us today?

Part two will take place on November 18, 2010. It is titled: “What does Masonry have to do with the Dead Sea Scrolls.” Please plan to join us.

Did you know…Today (January 25th) is the birthdate of Scottish Poet and Mason, Robert Burns.

Consistory Lodge Breakfast

Late last week the Mail Crew got the mailing out to let people know what was happening at the Scottish Rite. They are our unsung heroes.

Then today the event actually happened. The scrumptious breakfast for Lodge members and others was held with about 87 in attendance. The attendance was down a little because of the crummy weather we have been having but the spirit and fellowship was way up.

Bryce and Rusty (above) had double duty today as they were leaving for Ottumwa for another event following the breakfast.
The Council of Kadosh is the sponsor of the breakfast and
Commander John was there dishing things up.
