Maundy Thursday - Des Moines

The Des Moines Chapter of Rose Croix held it's annual Maundy Thursday Observance tonight. It was a very nice event with many in attendance including families. It was wonderful to see the young people there. Click on the picture above or here to see a slide show of all the pictures.

After a delicious meal we adjourned to the auditorium for three ceremonies.
First was the extinguishing of the lights.
Following that a living Last Supper with The Twelve Apostles telling their stories and then the final ceremony was the relighting of the lights.

It was very appropriate that tonight's ceremony coincided with the Vernal Equinox. The day when the day and the night are the same length and the promise of Easter and Spring is present as Winter has ended and the days will begin to be longer. All in all this was a very impressive event and the participants did an excellent job.

Reminder...The Knights of St. Andrew Organizational meeting will be Saturday at 10:00 AM.

Spring Reunion Notes:

Practices are now being held for the various degrees for the Spring Reunion. It would be very nice to have a large class to honor Illustrious Pete Paschal 33 degree PGM from Newton. Reunion dates are fast approaching (March 28/29 and April 11/12) but there is still time. Cost for a new candidate is $300.

Following the 18th degree on March 29, the SR members will have a chance to socialize and get to know our new members. On the final day (April 12) you and your lady are invited to join us for a social hour and banquet following the 32nd degree. There will be a string quartet providing music during the social hour and dinner. This event will be with the ladies. Cost is $15 per person.

May 14, Quarterly Meeting and Ascension Day Service – Joint with the York Rite. This is an impressive event and honors those who have died during the year.

May 16 – AASR Golf Outing - Terrace Hills, $80 per person including dinner, cart and green fees. If you are not a golfer you may come out and socialize with the members, If you are interested in attending only the dinner, contact Don Driscoll for arrangements. A special edition Scottish Rite Golf Bag is being raffled in conjunction with this event. Tickets will be on sale at the Reunion luncheons and you may also get them at the Scottish Rite Office.

Honors Banquet

Those of you who have been honored with the KCCH or 33rd Degree should reserve Monday August 25 on your calendars. That is the date chosen for the Honors Banquet, which is held in the years that honors are not given. Plans are being made for a very special evening.

The Breakfast Club has worked hard this Spring with various projects around your Temple. They have another work day scheduled for March 22. There is still a lot to do so if you can join them to help please plan to do so. If you can’t join them be sure to tell them Thank-You for all that they do to help make the Scottish Rite Temple a beautiful place to be.

As most of you know the Knights of St. Andrew is forming a Chapter in the Des Moines Valley. This event is for 32nd degree Masons only. There have been some preliminary meetings and there will be another one on March 22 at 10:00 AM. This is going to be a great group to belong to and to participate in and best of all by joining now you will get to be a Charter Member with the extra prestige that entails. You will also have a say in the way the group is organized and electing officers and choosing regalia by attending the March 22 meeting. For more information contact Jeremy N. Davis,

The Scottish Rite is looking for a washer and dryer for use at the building. They do not need to be new. We spend a lot of time and some money with simple laundry. It would be nice to install units here to save the extra effort. Please call the office if you have one you would like to donate.
