Meals from the Heartland

Meals from the Heartland

In what has become an annual event, the members of the Des Moines Consistory, their families and friends will join together to pack 32,000 meals for the 2013 Meals from the Heartland Project. It will be held on Sunday, December 1stat the Scottish Rite Consistory. As in the past there will be two shifts to allow for various holiday schedules.
These meals will be distributed throughout Iowa as well as around the world to those most in need. Last year, over 100 volunteers were on hand for the project. The project will begin with the unloading the bulk food and setting up of the production line on Sunday morning at 10:00 am. Lunch will be provided by our Scottish Rite "Kitchen Krew" and the 2nd shift will begin at 1:00 pm, our goal is to be completed by 4:00 pm.
There will be an overview of how the food would be utilized and instruction on how to package 32,000 meals in just an afternoon. While the packaging is a big part of the job, there are bins to refill, boxes to make, a truck to be loaded, and clean up to be done.
We can use volunteers of all ages. You do not have to be a part of Scottish Rite to participate, your friends and family are more than welcome to attend. Please let the SR Office know of your attendance plans so we can plan ahead. 515-288-8927 or rsvp@dmscottishrite.org.

2013 Fall Reunion

The 2013 John H. McKlveen, 33° Fall Memorial Reunion concluded Saturday evening with the Double Eagle Gala. The Gala is the conclusion of the two-weekend Reunion and this year's party was another winner: fellowship, a great dinner (Spring Mix Salad with Roasted Pecans, New York Strip Steak, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans Almandine, and Crème Brulee for dessert), and a fantastic dance band, Freestyle, all made the conclusion to both weekends a resounding success. Master of Kadosh Daniel R. Hobson, 33° welcomed guests and thanked all those who helped with this Reunion. Past Master of Kadosh John W. Clearman, 33° introduced the class, listed below.  After the dinner and remarks, the band Freestyle provided music for the evening.

Reunions provide an opportunity for current Scottish Rite Masons to both reconnect with members of their class and continue their study of the lessons found in the degrees. These Reunions also introduce our new Scottish Rite Brothers to the "University of Freemasonry" and its lessons. This year's class enjoyed 28 of the 29 Scottish Rite Degrees over the two Reunion weekends- there was much to study! And the McKlveen class plans to assist with the performance of the one degree our Valley has yet to perform. This will make the Des Moines Valley one of the few, and perhaps only, Scottish Rite Valleys in the Southern Jurisdiction to present all 29 degrees!

Congratulations to the new Masters of the Royal Secret in the Des Moines Valley. We're excited that you joined this journey with us and we look forward to your participation in future Reunions!

REUNION UPDATES - November 6

A couple of updates for the Fall Reunion to keep everyone in the loop, Friday night will begin at 5:00 pm with dinner in the Tapestry Lounge. Dinner will be roasted pork loin, baked potato, green beans, salad, and dessert. Cost is $10.
Degree performances: 20th to 22nd degrees perform on Friday night. We will have several visitors in attendance from both Kansas City and Cedar Rapids that I am aware of. Let's give them a warm welcome. 20th Degree kicks off at 6:00 pm.
Saturday begins early. The 23rd degree (Chief of the Tabernacle) begins at 7:45 am. If you are an early riser stop in and watch their performance. They do a great job but unfortunately, it is usually to a small audience since they are the 1st degree of the morning.

Lunch is at 12:20 pm in the Tapestry room. It will be a pizza buffet, salad, cottage cheese, and dessert.   Cost is $5.

DOUBLE EAGLE GALA UPDATES
We still have a few reservations available, so if you would like to attend but haven't made a reservation, please contact the AASR office. We would like to have you celebrate Scottish Rite with our new members and their ladies.
We have had a few questions on dress code. It is tuxedo optional but a suit or coat and tie is perfectly acceptable.
Cost is $40 per person for hors de oeuvres, steak dinner, and party. If you need a vegetarian option, please let me know.
Freestyle is a great band. I am sure you will enjoy the evening.
Reservations can be made by calling 515-288-8927 orrsvp@dmscottishrite.org.

2009 Gala

The 2013 Double Eagle Gala is this Saturday, November 9th.  It will be an awesome night for you and your lady at Scottish Rite.  A great atmosphere, wonderful people, plus a great dinner and dancing will make this a night that you will be proud to be a Scottish Rite Mason.

The evening begins with social hour at 6:30 pm in the Grand Banquet room.  A special signature drink chosen by our Master of Kadosh will welcome you to the party as well as a great display of hors de oeuvres.  Following the cocktail hour, we will welcome and greet our new Scottish Rite Masons and their ladies from the John H. McKlveen Jr. 33° Memorial Class at the banquet.  Remarks will be brought by the Class President, Don Burkhart, and his officers and we will honor Illustrious Brother McKlveen.  Dinner will feature a NY Strip Steak for the main course and Crème Brulee for dessert.  It will be catered by Great Caterers of Iowa.  If you need a vegetarian option, please contact the SR office.

After the class banquet and dinner it will be time to celebrate.  We have an astounding band, Freestyle, that we know you will enjoy.  They are well known in Des Moines and play a wide variety of music.  Put on your dancing shoes and get ready for a great time.
