Join Us Saturday Evening to Celebrate the Craft at Shepheard's Tavern
The Des Moines Valley will be hosting a "Shepheard's Tavern" social from 5 pm to 7 pm in the Tapestry Room of our Scottish Rite building (519 Park Street). Shepheard's Tavern was the inn where the first Scottish Rite meetings were held. We host Shepheard's Tavern events as purely a social occasion. We will have snacks, drinks, and will be broadcasting the Celebrating the Craft event on the big screen for all to enjoy. There is no cost to attend. This event is open to all Scottish Rite Masons, their family and friends. "Celebrating the Craft" has music, comedy, magic, celebrities, never-before-seen video from the House of the Temple and Valleys across the country, and so much more! If you can't join us in person in Des Moines or journey to Washington DC you can watch it online at Scottishrite.org from 5 pm to 11 pm.
Under Construction - 2014
As we introduced at the recent "Friends of the Des Moines Consistory" our major project for 2014 is the replacement of the fly roof. This is the area over the extreme north end of the auditorium above the big fancy columns where the backdrops are located. This project began on May 9th and will continue throughout the month of May and possibly into June. Please note, when parking in the lot behind our building you will need to park at the extreme north end. This will allow the contractors full access to the roof at all times. Please contact Shane Harshbarger 515-288-8927 should you have questions or concerns.

Memorial and Ascension Service
The officers of the Des Moines Lodge of Perfection and the Des Moines York Rite bodies invite you to our joint York Rite/Scottish Rite Memorial & Ascension Service to be held on May 14, 2014.
We will have dinner in the Grand Banquet Room at 6:15 pm. There is no charge for the dinner but a reservation made with the Scottish Rite office would be greatly appreciated 515-288-8927 rsvp@dmscottishrite.org.
Quarterly meeting is at 7:00 pm with the Service of Remembrance for our departed brothers from the York Rite and the Scottish Rite at 7:30 pm in the Auditorium. The event is open to Masons, their families and guests.
19th Degree (Grand Pontiff) - Casting Call
On June 28th the Des Moines Valley of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite will be presenting the 19th Degree - Grand Pontiff at our one-day class. This is the only degree our Valley has not previously performed.
This fall, the 19th Degree will be inserted into the schedule and we will perform all 29 Scottish Rite degrees for the first time ever. This has been a project of our Valley since 2007 and the Des Moines Valley will be part of a very select category of valleys that perform all 29 of the Scottish Rite degrees.
This email is for the purpose of providing notice to any member of the Des Moines Valley that might wish to participate in this degree and this historic occasion for the Des Moines Valley.
It is our goal to have a blend of newer and longer term members in the degree. One of the neat things about this degree is that it has a large cast. By coincidence, there are 19 ritualists needed to perform the 19th Degree.
There are a number of medium and small sized parts - all of which are important. If you are interested, please let Brian Pappaducas or
I know on or before May 13th. We will have a meeting after the Ascension Service on May 14th to discuss the degree and assign parts. It is our expectation that you will be in the degree on June 28th and October 17th. Please indicate if you would like a small or medium sized part.
There are also opportunities to assist with this degree in other ways. Sound, lights, stage, and wardrobe will all be playing a role in making this happen. Feel free to let us know if you would like to assist in that manner.
Thank you all and I look forward your participation.
W. Charles Smithson, Co-Director of the Work
