Scottish Rite Express

Join us on Sunday - Meals from the Heartland
Meals from the Heartland
In what has become an annual event, the members of the Des Moines Consistory, their families and friends will join together to pack 32,000 meals for the 2012 Meals from the Heartland Project.  This will be an increase of 12,000 meals from the 2011 event and will be held on Sunday, November 25th at the Scottish Rite Consistory. As in the past there will be two shifts to allow for various holiday schedules.
These meals will be distributed throughout Iowa as well as around the world to those most in need.  Last year, over 100 volunteers were on hand for the project.  The project will begin with the unloading the bulk food from the truck and setting up of the production line on Sunday morning at 10:00 am.  Lunch will be provided by our Scottish Rite "Kitchen Krew" and the 2nd shift will begin at 1:00 pm, our goal is to be completed by 4:00 pm.

There will be an overview of how the food would be utilized and instruction on how to package 32,000 meals in just an afternoon. While the packaging is a big part of the job, there are bins to refill, boxes to make, a truck to be loaded, and clean up to be done.  We can use volunteers of all ages.
We can use volunteers of all ages.  Please let the SR Office know of your attendance plans so we can plan ahead.  515-288-8927 or rsvp@dmscottishrite.org.

This project was made possible by a grant made to the Des Moines Valley by the Iowa Scottish Rite Masonic Foundation.

"400 Club"
The "400 Club" fund-raiser is entering its final stretch and we are closing in on our goal of 400 donations of $50.  In fact we have had several individuals donate more than the $50 but we would still like to have 400 names on the list.
As noted in the last newsletter some of the donated monies have been put to use with new paint in the Washington and Pike rooms.Right before the reunion, we purchased additional headsets and microphones as well.
An important aspect of this campaign is to involve as many members as possible.  Our "400 Club" does just that.  We are looking for 400 Scottish Rite Masons to donate $50 by December 1, 2012.  If successful this will raise the final $20,000 to reach our goal.  These funds will then be matched by another donor with an additional $10,000 pushing the "400 Club" campaign contribution to $30,000 and reaching our goal.
