Des Moines Scottish Rite - Installation and Christmas Party
The evening started with walking into a Consistory filled with holiday cheer, and finished with just the same. After a short business meeting, the membership and their guests filed into the auditorium for the installation of the 2015 officers. All then retired to Tapestry Lounge for a wonderful spread of hors d'oeuvres finished with some peppermint ice cream. The evening was capped off with singing of traditional Christmas Carols led by the Double Eagle Chorus. A great start to the holiday season, and for the 2015 officers.

2014 Meals from the Heartland
Many hands make light work! This concept was proven once again by members, families, and friends of the Des Moines Valley, who in three and a half hours packages 32,400 meals for Meals From the Heartland. This shattered the goal of 32,000 meals, while getting sone a full 90 minutes ahead of schedule.
Thank you to the Advisory Conference, Personal Representative Bryce Hildreth, 33, and the Master of Kadosh Steve Jacobsen, 32 KCCH for a great community service event!
And of course, thank you to the Kitchen Krew for home made chili, hot dogs, and chicken dumpling soup to keep us all well fed.
Well done to all!

The 2014 Meals from the Heartland Project is this Sunday!
In what has become an annual event,
the members of the Des Moines Consistory, their families and friends will join together to pack 32,000 meals for the Meals from the Heartland Project. The event will be held this Sunday, November 30th at the Scottish Rite
Consistory.
The meals we pack will be distributed throughout Iowa as well as around the world to those most in need. The project will begin on Sunday morning at 9:30 am. While the packaging is a big part of the job, there will also be bins to refill, boxes to be made and a truck to be loaded. Lunch will be provided by our Scottish Rite "Kitchen Krew". Our goal is to complete the packing by 2:30 pm. Anyone can help with this important project so invite your friends and family to help make a difference during this time of giving.
This project was made possible by a grant made to the Des Moines Valley by the Iowa Scottish Rite Masonic Foundation. Please let the Scottish Rite office know of your attendance so we can plan ahead. 515-288-8927 or

deHoyos and Van Dyke Visit Recap
Wow! What an event! If you missed this one, you missed a special treat. In addition to being the Quarterly Meeting and annual election of officers, members of the Des Moines Valley had the distinct opportunity to spend some quality time with two Masonic leaders, Arturo deHoyos, 33° GC and Jason VanDyke, 32° KCCH. Both work at the House of the Temple, the home of the Supreme Council of the 33° of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.
Illustrious Brother deHoyos is a very well-known and respected Masonic scholar. He serves the Supreme Council as the Grand Archivist and Grand Historian. He has become one of the foremost experts on Masonic history and origins, especially through his works that are shared through the Scottish Rite Research Society. Some of his works include: the Scottish Rite Ritual Monitor and Guide (the text book for the Master Craftsman program), a transcription of Albert Pike’s Esoterika, and many other well-known Masonic titles. Illustrious Brother deHoyos shared his thoughts with members of the Des Moines Valley on the origins of the Scottish Rite during a special Scottish Rite Masons-only luncheon, and then the development of the Master Mason degree in the evening following a steak dinner from the Kitchen Krew.
Brother Van Dyke is the Assistant Director of Communications and Assistant Director of Education for the Supreme Council. Brother Van Dyke shared some information regarding the Master Craftsman program during the Quarterly Meeting, including some successes and methods for organizing study groups. He also mentioned that the Master Craftsman II program will be overhauled over the course of the next few year to bring more exciting educational opportunities to those who have completed Master Craftsman I. Brother Van Dyke encouraged all to pursue the Master Craftsman: Symbolic Lodge edition as a way to learn more about Masonry, its origins, history, philosophy, and symbolism. It is a great introduction to the Master Craftsman program in general, and a wonderful way for all Masons to further more Light in Masonry. A wonderful day for Scottish Rite Masonry, and an inspiring event for all!
