Dale Louis Klauss, 33° It is with regret we announce the death of Dale L.       Klauss, 33°.  Dale passed on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Mill Pond Retirement Community Center in Ankeny at the age of 86. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, at Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines, where a Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 4, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 4114 Allison Avenue in Des Moines. Entombment will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Dale was born on June 24, 1928 in Glenshaw, PA, to Louis Hunt and Charlotte (Baer) Klauss. He was an Army veteran during the Korean War. Dale met the love of his life, Joan A. Ball while they were both attending Hanover College in Hanover Indiana. They were united in marriage on June 21, 1952 in Indianapolis, IN, soon after graduation. In 1964, they moved to the Des Moines area, where they made their home. Dale was a 50-year member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, of which he served as usher and Past Treasurer. He was also Past Treasurer of Des Moines Public Schools. Dale began his Masonic career in Pennsylvania joining Pittsburgh Lodge #484 and was raised to the 3rd Degree on June 11, 1951.  He later transferred to Acanthus Lodge #632 in Des Moines.  Dale took his Scottish Rite degrees in the Valley of Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1955 and the joined the Des Moines Valley in 1968.  Dale was a ritualist in the 30th and 32nd Degree, played in the Consistory band, and served as Treasurer of our Valley.  He was invested with the Knight Commander Court of Honour in October of 1977 and received the 33rd Degree, Inspector General Honorary, in 1985. He also served as Potentate of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Temple in 1973 and as Grand Treasurer of the Grand Lodge of Iowa from 1980-1981. Dale was also a member of Royal Order of Jesters and a Past Director.  Dale served on the Iowa DeMolay Foundation and received the DeMolay Legion of Honor. Dale will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.  He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Joan Klauss of Ankeny and his two daughters, Sherry (Chris) Paul of Johnston and Linda (Rod) Blanchard of Oskaloosa. In agreement with Dale's wishes, the family has respectfully requested that any memorial contributions be made in Dale Klauss' name to: Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2025 E.
